WELCOME TO OUR COTTAGE ROSE KINDERGARTEN!

Hello Families! I love golden sunshine, magical forests, and joyful meadows. All of nature has a feeling like a wonderful secret waiting to be found. It is in this feeling that I live and thrive, and I love to bring this feeling to the children. A world of wonder, goodness, and beauty. It can be found not only in forests, meadows, streams, and nature but everywhere you look. And it is good even for us to keep finding it when the world seems so lost in strife. Along with a nurturing daily and seasonal rhythm, we will find this wonder, magic, and beauty wherever we go over the course of our year or two together ~ and we will have help from some special little friends!

Here in our Cottage Rose Kindergarten, the parent is still receiving the support and education provided in Parent Child, where they can use the materials as they are with their child, or learn from and recreate them if they choose. The activities are designed for children and parents to do together, as children generally want to imitate and be with their parents in all of life's rhythms, including those in our class!

Though we keep in mind that the parent still needs to be present and involved in all activities, around age 5, the child's development has progressed to the point where they are better able to sustain attention and take on more challenging tasks and movements. For example, the stories become even more complex fairy tales, handwork includes some fine motor control, and circle time graduates from mere finger play and vertical movements to more complex actions across more physical planes. Also, due to this growth, the kindergarten child is now able to participate in a shorter Zoom class with Ms. Katie once a week.

This wonder-filled curriculum is prepared for you and can all be found in one place: Each Friday, you will get our Weekly Guide, which is a lesson plan for the upcoming week that can be found in the Portal and connects you with the following elements:

Videos - For the Children with varying parental involvement:
~Seasonal Circle Journey that includes songs, verses, and nourishing developmental movement.
~Puppet Show and/or Story
~Movement Activity
~A flexible rotation of Art: Drawing and Beeswax Modeling
~Cooking or Baking Time
~Handwork or craft
~Painting
~Nature Spy and Stroll

For the Parent:
~PDFs or audios to accompany the activities above, as needed
~Daily, weekly, and seasonal Rhythm guidance, including information on festivals and birthdays
~Steiner Meditation from Calendar of the Soul
~Book Club Chapters or Article on Early Childhood and/or Waldorf Pedagogy

Weekly Zoom Class with Children at 11:30 am PST on Wednesdays:
Our weekly class with the children will be about 20-30 minutes and will start out with an opening verse and song segment, which will flow into an activity or story. We will then have a little sharing time when students can show any art, handwork, or favorite toys if they'd like. And then we'll flow into a closing song.

Weekly Family Zoom Gathering at 12:30 pm PST on Wednesdays:
For our family Zoom gathering, we will come together in a supportive environment along with families in our Golden Poppy Parent-Child class. First, we'll have a general check-in, and then I will present a topic from a recent article or chapter in our Book Club, where we can discuss, share, and ask questions about the reading, upcoming festivals, and anything related to our Weekly Guide. This is a wonderful time of community building and support, so hopefully you can all join in!

And, of course, the children are welcome to pop in at any time to say hi and maybe show us a favorite toy, piece of art, or handwork.

I look forward to working and playing with you, your child, and your family!

With Gratitude and Blessings,
Ms. Katie
