Class Description

French ages 7-9 Level 1 - 

The aim of the course is to experience the French language, to get used to its sounds, acquire basic vocabulary and some speaking skills. There will be no writing or reading. It is intended for beginners with no or little exposure to the French language.
In the recorded part, there will be listening and speaking activity, through poems, songs, stories, finger games... Children will practice speaking by repeating what I say and will show comprehension skill through drawing, uploading video. Our live sessions will be the time to practice speaking through games, crafts, cooking…

We will have a monthly themes. To begin the year, our themes will be Michaelmas, Fall and Martinmas. The vocabulary covered will be the beginning of counting, family members and the name of the days/weeks. The students will also learn how to present themselves, their family and start with 2 basic questions: what is it ? and how is he/she ?

After we will be progressing in our study of French with 3 new themes : Christmas, the French “galette des Rois” (an Epiphany French tradition), and winter. We will keep on learning how to count, learn food vocabulary and how to speak about the climate. They will learn how to say the following sentences : say Christmas and New year wishes, the basis of negation (it is/it isn’t, I have, I haven’t) and ask about the weather and the date.

For the last part of the year, our themes will be spring, the animals and summer/holidays. We will count up to a 100, learn the names of the colors, how to say basic prepositions (and learn how to say and answer where is… ?) and learn body parts. We will also practice other questions and answers : which color is ? How much… ? When… ?

French ages 7-9 Level 2 - 

The aim of the course is to experience the French language, acquire basic vocabulary and speaking skills. There will be no writing or reading. It is intended for students with one year of study.

In the recorded part, there will be listening and speaking activity, through poems, songs, stories, finger games... Children will practice speaking by repeating what I say and will show comprehension skill through drawing, uploading video. Our live sessions will be the time to practice speaking through games, crafts, cooking…

In the level 2 course, more emphasis will be on speaking : we will act out stories, and play little scenes where they will have to say individual sentences. More complex stories will be told, to develop listening and understanding skills.

Our themes will mostly be around the stories they will hear (sometimes related to festivals or seasons).

French ages 10-14 Level 1 -

The aim of the course is to experience the French language, to get used to its sounds, acquire basic vocabulary and some speaking skills. A basic introduction to reading and writing, with some grammatical rules, will be proposed. It is intended for beginners with no or little exposure to the French language.


In the recorded part, there will be listening and speaking activity, through poems, songs, stories, riddles, tongue twisters…. Students will practice speaking by repeating what I say and will show comprehension skills through drawing or uploading video. Our live sessions will be the time to practice speaking through games, crafts, cooking, and exercises.


Our theme this year will be the discovery of France. To begin the year, we will discover how French is spoken in the world and learn about major French cities. We will learn the French alphabet and how to write the different sounds of the French language so they can read what is written. In the speaking part we will learn how to introduce themselves, how to say and answer the basic question : what is it ? and who is he/she and the beginning of negation. The vocabulary covered will include nationality, language, jobs, buildings, family members and counting up to 20.
Then, we will carry on our discovery of the French language. We will have a block about French cooking and discover Paris. In the grammatical part we will see how to say basic verbs, use the articles A/THE (un/le) and how to use the plural and feminine form of the words. They will learn how to say what they like, express what they want and speak about the weather and the time. The vocabulary covered will be food and hobby mainly, as well as counting up to 1000. To finish the year, I will offer the students a journey through France and teach them about famous French people. We will learn the basic prepositions, how to say my, your, his… and this/that and finally learn how to say other basic verbs. In our speaking exercises we will work on the questions where (is it ? are you going?), what are you doing?, how is he ? In the vocabulary part we will learn how to describe things (colors for instance) and people (body parts, clothes).

French ages 10-14 Level 2 -

The aim of the course is to experience the French language, to get used to its sounds, acquire vocabulary and more advanced speaking skills. We will study more advanced grammar. It is intended for students with a year of study.

In the recorded part, there will be listening and speaking activity, through poems, songs, stories, riddles, tongue twisters…. Students will practice speaking by repeating what I say and will show comprehension skills through drawing or uploading video. Our live sessions will be the time to practice speaking through games, crafts, cooking, and exercises.

This year, we will discover France more thoroughly as each month we study a different region: its culture, geography, local song or poem, its history, its cooking.

In the grammatical part, after continuing studying the present tense and all the different forms of verbs, we will learn the future tense and start learning about the past tense.
